Dermafix Micro-Needling Pen

Collagen and elastin are two of the key building blocks for young, firm and healthy skin. Micro-needling is an exciting treatment option because it stimulates your body’s own healing response to stimulate new collagen and elastin production, instead of relying on external products to create a rejuvenating effect.

Using the Dermafix Micro-Needling Pen, we are able to create tiny micro-injuries in your skin in the form of columns or needle-pricks just 0.2mm wide. The injuries close within 24 hours and yet trigger a skin healing chain reaction that promotes cell growth, as well as fresh collagen and elastin. As this reaction takes place, your skin will look healthier, firmer and smoother.

Micro-needling has been shown to improve the appearance of scars and pigmentation, to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, and to shrink large pores.

The benefits of micro-needling

  • Visibly reduces scars, pigmentation & pores
  • Effective treatment for stretchmarks
  • Suitable for all skin colours & types
  • Helps to create channels to better absorb skincare products
  • Brightens, lifts, firms & rejuvenates the skin

Micro-needling treatment areas

Micro-needling is suitable for treating anywhere on the face or body, but is most often used to rejuvenate the face, neck and chest areas. The Dermafix Micro-Needling Pen is particularly effective for sensitive or hard to reach areas such as the sides of the nose or under the eyes because its 12-needle, single-use tip can reach into creases and the needle depth can be altered for thinner, delicate skin. Micro-needling is also an excellent treatment option for stretchmarks.

Micro-needling FAQs

How does micro-needling work?

As mentioned above, micro-needling works by creating tiny, invisible injuries within your skin so that your body responds by making new skin cells, fresh collagen and elastin. The channels into your skin created by the micro-needling device also provide a route deeper into the epidermis for cosmeceutical skincare products designed to boost your skin health.

By the end of a micro-needling treatment, your skin should look thicker, plumper and more youthful.

Is micro-needling safe?

Micro-needling has an excellent, proven safety record, especially when carried out by an experienced and highly trained aesthetics practitioner.

What are the side effects?

As micro-needling stimulates your body’s own healing response rather than adding anything to the skin, the side effects tend to be minimal and limited. Your skin may look pink or red after a micro-needling treatment, as though you are sunburnt, and you may notice some minor bleeding or bruising, depending on the length of needles used. It’s also normal for the skin to feel warm, tight and itchy for between 12 and 48 hours.

Some people experience minor flaking or dry skin post-treatment and, in rare cases, scabs or milia (small white spots) form on the skin’s surface. Very rarely, there have been reports or hyperpigmentation which typically takes a month to resolve.

If you have a history of cold sores, you may experience an outbreak after micro-needling. Let us know in advance so that we can prescribe a preventative treatment.

Is there anything I should do before I come in for the treatment?

Before you decide whether micro-needling is the right treatment for you, we will ask you to come into Aesthetic Nursing Services for a no-obligation consultation. During this initial appointment, we will take a full medical history and spend time with you getting to know you and how you feel about specific aspects of your appearance. This is an opportunity for you to ask questions and for us to make sure that you understand all of your treatment options and have realistic expectations for the outcomes.

We may ask you to prepare your skin for treatment by applying vitamin A and C creams for up to four weeks beforehand.

What happens during a micro-needling treatment with the Dermafix Pen?

We will begin your appointment by cleansing your skin and applying a topical anaesthetic cream to make the treatment feel as comfortable as possible. Once the cream has taken effect, we will move the Dermafix Pen across your skin to create micro-injuries in the treatment area. This can take between 10 minutes and an hour depending on the size of the area being treated.

How long will the results last?

It may take between four and eight weeks before you begin to notice your skin improving; this is because new collagen and elastin take approximately six weeks to form. You should then continue to notice visible improvements to your skin health for several months.

Although a single treatment can produce noticeable results, most people need a programme of two to five treatments roughly two to three months apart to achieve the optimum results.

After that, you may decide to have a top-up treatment once or twice a year to maintain the results.

We will discuss how many treatments we think you will need and how regularly during your initial consultation, so you know what to realistically expect.

What happens after the treatment?

When you have a micro-needling treatment at Aesthetic Nursing Services, we will give you detailed aftercare instructions to help you enjoy a complication-free recovery and the best outcomes.  We may recommend that you:

  • Use tepid water to cleanse your face for the first 48 hours post-treatment, and that you pat dry your skin gently without rubbing
  • Wash your hands before touching your face
  • Apply prescribed skincare products according to the regime we recommend
  • Use a high factor sunscreen for several weeks after your treatment

We may also recommend that you apply vitamin A and C creams as directed for up to six months after your skin-needling course of treatment to aid the healthy production of new collagen and keep your skin looking younger for as long as possible.
